As we approach 2026, the smartphone industry is experiencing a hardware leap focused on artificial intelligence. According to information from sources close to the industry, smartphones are transitioning to hardware configurations previously seen in a limited number of models, such as 24 GB RAM and 1 TB storage, with the new generation chipsets from Qualcomm and MediaTek.
Smartphones may make a leap in RAM capacity
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 and MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 high-end chipsets offer nearly twice the artificial intelligence performance of previous generations. While it is stated that the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 works with an artificial intelligence power of up to 100 trillion operations per second, it is stated that the Dimensity 9500 also reaches a processing volume close to this level.
On the memory side, manufacturers have largely shelved 24 GB RAM configurations due to increasing DRAM costs in 2023 and 2024. However, due to the artificial intelligence capabilities offered by the new chipsets and the increasing demands on the user side, this configuration has been brought back to the agenda in the upper segment models.
At the same time, 1 TB of storage space stands out in terms of processing and storing artificial intelligence data locally. Performance data reveals the difference between the new chips and the existing models.
It is expected that the new hardware will directly affect the device prices. The fact that memory and storage costs are still high means that the sales prices of these devices can reach thousands of dollars. So what do you think about this issue?
